As the Locals Do It

Diving into the multi-faceted world of Japanese Sake can be challenging for the uninitiated. As a foundational beverage in Japanese culture, dating back 2500 years to the first import of rice from China, sake is one traditional beverage a visitor cannot miss out on during their time in Japan. In a small izakaya located in Setagaya Ward, not far from Shibuya, traditional sake and creative cuisine meet to provide the ideal introduction to Japanese Rice Wine. Izakaya owner and chef Masaru-san expertly pairs sake selections and otsumami—tapas-style small plates—utilizing farm-fresh ingredients from his hometown in Yamagata Prefecture. Be guided through the more intricate notes of Sake and find your favorite flavor, enjoying a tasty meal in this comfortable and traditional izakaya setting.
