Meet the Master
Though native to Osaka, Hiroki was so moved by the natural beauty of the forests surronding Fuji that he was inspired to become a nature guide, spending every day immersed in its vitality. With an emphasis on humor and engaging education, he aspires to share the beauty of Fuji's nature with all who join him.
What you’ll do
Trek through Aokigahara Forest with a nature guide, learning about the forest's unique formation, ecological features, and innate connection to Mt. Fuji. Then, descend a cliff face to the entrance of a volcanic tunnel cave, once used for silk farming during the Meiji Period. Witness glittering icicles preserved in time before returning to nature and seeing where the volcanic forest meets old-growth.

What’s included
Rental equipment (helmet, headlamp, gloves).
What to wear/bring
Since you may enter a cave during the experience, please keep the belongings you bring with you to a minimum.
Clothing:
• long sleeves and long pants are recommended
• please wear comfortable, waterproof shoes (trekking shoes are ideal)
• warm clothing (cave temperature is below 5°C)
• rain gear (+ a change of clothing in case you get wet)
• please bring drinks, snacks, and medications as needed
What else you should know
Please inform us about the height and clothing size of each participant at checkout so that suitable equipment may be provided.
The experience will proceed even in rainy weather.

The Sea of Trees
Over 1,200 years ago, sacred Mount Fuji erupted violently, spewing fire and molten lava that reshaped the surrounding landscape and split once-expansive lakes into separate basins. The lava flows surged across the terrain, consuming forests, villages, and everything in their path. When the eruption ended, the land was left as nothing more than a barren field of hardened rock. Over time, life slowly returned. Moss grew, died, and layered upon itself until thin soil began to form. From this desolate foundation, the dense wilderness of Aokigahara Forest emerged. Now composed of lush vegetation, the silent forest is blanketed by green moss and filled with towering trees, their scraggly roots displayed above ground, seeking desperately for a foothold in the impenetrable bed of volcanic rock deposited centuries in the past. Beneath the surface, lava-formed caverns remain frozen in time—and temperature—naturally refrigerated spaces once used by communities during the Edo period to preserve food year-round. With a guide whose passion and deep knowledge bring the forest vividly to life, visitors can move beyond the myths and discover a landscape shaped by resilience, geological drama, and remarkable natural vitality.
