Invigorating tastes
Iwate, the prefecture where Rikuzentakata is located, is one of the top producers of oysters in all of Japan. The local economy is heavily dependent on commercial fishing, and so in the wake of the 2011 disasters, oyster-farming continues to play an integral role in Rikuzentakata’s recovery. Described as the “milk of the sea” in Japan, oysters are beloved for their deliciousness and high nutritional profile, containing such minerals as calcium, zinc and proteins such as glycogen and amino acids. Rikuzentaka’s oysters certainly do not disappoint. and are well-known for their prodigious size. Get a real taste of the ocean as you venture out onto the water with Rikuzentakata’s local fishermen, experts of the high seas, and enjoy the freshest oysters you’ll ever eat!
