Patience and a Steady Hand
Off the coast of Takamatsu, the Setouchi Sea has long supported a rich fishing culture, thanks to its calm waters and abundant marine life. The gentle currents and varied underwater terrain create ideal conditions for catching sea bream, octopus, sardines, and other local specialties. For generations, coastal communities have thrived on small-scale, sustainable fishing, with early morning fish markets and harbor scenes offering a glimpse into daily life shaped by the sea. Dive into the local fishing scene by catching a ride with a local fisherman on an early morning fishing trip out on the waters of the Setouchi Sea. Take in the views of the many islands that dot the surrounding waters as you make your way to the fishing point. Upon arrival, guided by the captain, learn how to catch your target fish of the day, whether it be the boat's specialty, ma-dai (red sea bream), or other seasonal fish that roam the waters. Then, after a morning out on the waters and reeling in your catch, you may even choose to have your catch of the day prepared by a local restauranteur. Experience the authentic flavor of fresh Takamatsu fish, caught with your own hands, and cooked to perfection by a culinary master.
