A local to the Yanbaru area whose family has lived here for generations and a certified guide by the Okinawa Kayak & Canoe Association, Wataru brings a resonant passion and genuine consideration for the environment to the experiences he operates. From hidden community history to deep knowledge of wildlife, his insights bring visitors deeper into this pristine region.
What you’ll do
Join the outdoor guide on the beach, far at the tip of Yanbaru. Head to the water and learn more about the environment and local history as you kayak, catching glimpse of fish, sea turtles, and other sea creatures. Alight at an uninhabited island off the coast and explore before heading back to Yanbaru's shores.

Instead, you will be informed about the exact departure time one day before the confirmed experience date.

What’s included
Life jackets will be provided for all participants.
What to wear/bring
Please bring a change of clothing or wear clothing that can get wet.
We also recommend wearing water shoes and a cap.
Drinks are not provided, so please bring your own.

This experience may be cancelled on short notice due to bad weather conditions and/or high waves.
If the experience is cancelled from the host’s side in such a way, you will be fully refunded.

Making Waves
An endless expanse of crystal-clear blue, stretching as far as the eye can see off the shore. Just below the surface, coral reefs play host to an extraordinary diversity of marine life, brightly-colored bodies darting through the shoal. Sea turtles, sharks, and even whales during their winter breeding season, can all also be found swimming through the deeper pockets of the ocean off the coast. Yanbaru, this lush, subtropical wilderness of northern Okinawa and home to Yanbaru National Park, is truly where nature thrives - both on land and in the water. Paddle through these protected areas in a kayak, guided by a local nature expert whose family has lived in the region for generations. More than an outdoor adventure, this is an opportunity to discover Yanbaru through the stories of those who call it home, gaining a deeper understanding of the landscape, wildlife, and traditions that continue to shape life in Okinawa's northern forests.
