Delight in the Taste of Tea

Nearly 1,000 years ago, a Buddhist monk returned from China carrying something deceptively small — tea seeds that would go on to transform the landscape of southern Japan. From these humble beginnings, the Yame region of Fukuoka blossomed into one of Japan’s most celebrated tea-growing areas. Sheltered by misty mountains and nourished by a fertile ecosystem, the tea fields of Yame thrive in ideal conditions, producing leaves known for their deep flavor and rich aroma. Nearly 40% of all gyokuro tea—Japan’s most prized shade-grown tea—is produced in Yame, renowned for its exceptional quality, upheld by centuries of craftsmanship and tradition. In the heart of Fukuoka, join a seasoned tea distributor at a venerable tea store with over 300 years of history in cultivating, blending, and brewing fine teas using Yame tea. The 12th-generation of tea master in his family, explore the full spectrum of Japanese tea culture under his guidance—from the deep, savory notes of gyokuro to the bright, grassy tones of sencha. Just like wine, each tea reveals its own terroir, story, and character—waiting to be discovered, one steep at a time.
