Graceful and Undistorted
The concept of zazen meditation is often associated with seated meditation. However, in Zen Buddhism, zazen meditation can be achieved in both motion and non-motion; walking, sitting, or standing are all forms of zazen. At this Zen temple in western Osaka City, the head monk combines Zen practices with insights from psychology that he studied when he was once in academia. Zazen meditation is one of these practices that he connects to the process of human motor development. The head monk believes the most natural zazen posture that you achieve is at the infant stage, when you learns how to balance the weight of your body and learn how to sit and stand, naturally. Thus, the emphasis on posture in zazen meditation is with the aim of achieving a graceful and undistorted posture, returning to the early stages of human motor development. Join this unique approach to zazen meditation with the head monk of this nearly 400-year old temple and reflect on your posture in your everyday life.
