Sip and Tell

Within a single chanoki tea plant, there lies a variety of teas, achievable with the change of manufacturing process, selection of harvesting focus, and the adjustment of growing methods. Three of Japan’s emblematic teas are produced through a change in manufacturing process: unfermented green tea (ryokucha), partially oxidized oolong tea, and finally, fully oxidized black tea (koucha). Sencha, a type of green tea, is the most widely enjoyed tea in Japan. Found everywhere from bottled drinks in vending machines to steaming cups served at local teishoku restaurants and enjoyed at home, sencha has long been an everyday part of Japanese life. Even amidst the recent matcha boom, sencha remains Japan's most familiar and enduring tea. At this tea shop in Osaka, join a tea expert who comes from a family of tea manufacturers in the business for over 150 years, and experience the diverse array of flavors and fragrances that sencha has to offer.
