Masters of Entertainment
Among the still-preserved teahouse districts of Kanazawa, with lattice-like wooden storefronts painted in a rich vermilion color and the gentle babble of the Asano River in the background, the kimono-clad figures of geisha can often be seen, ducking surreptitiously in and out of the alleys between performances. An iconic image of Kanazawa's artistic heritage, Kanazawa geisha (or geiko, as they're called in Kanazawa), have been expertly entertaining upscale patrons of Kanazawa since the reign of the 12th daimyo lord. Compared to their Kyoto sisters, Kanazawa geisha frequently utilize two taiko drums in their performances, and rarely speak with guests, focusing more on artistic performance than the craft of conversation. With years of training honing their classical skills, from nihon buyo dance to traditional instruments such as the shamisen, Kanazawa geisha are primed to both delight and mystify their audiences. In an exclusive, invitation-only teahouse, enjoy a private geisha experience. Unlike the full-length evening performances that include a multi-course seasonal meal, this condensed program offers a rare and focused immersion into the refined artistry of geisha culture—allowing guests to witness up close the elegance, discipline, and timeless beauty of a living tradition.
