Local Legacy

Located near downtown Kanazawa at the base of Kanazawa Castle, this shrine stands as an enduring symbol of the Maeda Clan’s legacy. Throughout the grounds, the clan’s Japanese plum blossom crest can be found woven into the shrine’s architecture, while plum trees bloom each spring, drawing visitors from across the region. Originally built in 1599 to honor the first lord of the Maeda Clan, the shrine was relocated to its present site in 1873. Its iconic front gate blends Japanese, Chinese, and Western architectural styles, crowned with colorful stained-glass windows that reflect the cultural crossroads of the era. For generations, this shrine has served both as a spiritual center for the local community and as a lasting reminder of Kanazawa’s history. Explore the tranquil grounds and experience a space where centuries of tradition and Shinto culture continue to live on.
