Where Waves and Wildlife Meet
Take to the waves and explore Hokkaido’s abundant wealth of natural resources and breathtaking scenery. Located at the mouth of where the Kiritappu wetlands, one of Japan’s most prominent marsh areas, flows into the Pacific Ocean, this cove provides calm waters, rich nutrients, and a thriving ecosystem that supports countless populations of different animals. A large, uninhabited island protects the waters from the rough waves and churning waters, allowing for the growth of dense beds of seaweed that attract sea urchins, sea otters, and other aquatic creatures. Depart from the launch and cruise through the surf in search of seals, sea otters, and sea eagles, among others, before landing on the island and trekking through the scenic landscape. A local outdoor expert will provide guidance through the waters and assistance in spotting these creatures in their natural habitat, taking guests as close as safely possible through the surf.
