Encounter Animals in their Native Ecosystem

One of Japan’s largest and most prominent wetlands, Kiritappu is filled with nutrient-rich peat soil and a thriving ecosystem that supports a diverse range of wildlife. The fertile marsh comes as a result of natural material accumulated where the mouth of various rivers meets the Pacific Ocean, creating hospitable environments for both land and sea creatures. Encounter herds of Hokkaido-native Ezo deer bounding through the reeds, witness circling flocks of Steller's sea eagles, which migrate to the region for the winter months, or spot sea otters cruising the rough surf by the coast, which crash along the shore in echoing booms. Guided by a local outdoor expert, come explore this array of stunning scenery and learn more about the natural world while experiencing it all up close.
