The Script of Poets

Balletic script dances across washi paper, traditional fans, and scrolls hung elegantly on the wall. Kana calligraphy, rather than exclusively featuring kanji characters, utilizes the kana syllabary, which flows together from start to finish like a gentle stream. Since Japan's ancient Heian Period, an era of aristocratic and sophisticated court life, kana writing has been intertwined with the work of poetry, a delicate art distinct from the kanji characters used in bureaucratic documents. Modern kana calligraphists must also retain knowledge and a refined sensitivity of the classical poetry from this era, as waka, haiku, and tanka poems frequently comprise contemporary kana creations. At this Hiroshima calligraphy workshop, join a kana calligraphy specialist in diving into the delicate beauty of kana calligraphy. Possessing both national awards and featured in both televised works and collaborative exhibitions, learn carefully from her years of expertise to make your own calligraphy creation and immerse deeper into the rich history and subtle beauty of kana calligraphy.
