Art through the medium of nature

Japanese aesthetics have long combined a desire to reflect the beauty of the natural world into a masterpiece requiring human intervention – noblemen of the Nara period created small kazan rock gardens while interest in bonkei tray landscaping has origins as far as the Kamakura period. However, bonsai remains the representative example of this philosophy, beloved by botanical enthusiasts all across the world, and is a practice with both innate spiritual significance, as well as elegant beauty.

This prestigious bonsai garden, located just a short drive from Hiroshima’s city center, houses countless stunning masterpieces of various species and sizes, carefully cultivated by the master bonsai gardener. Learn how the influences of land, climate, and seasons guide the bonsai artist in shaping in each tree’s form, stroll through the private gardens to observe the botanical creations, then receive guided instruction from the master in shaping your own bonsai tree.
