Zen in Bloom
Zazen meditation centers on balance, breath, and stillness — a Zen Buddhist practice rooted in quiet discipline and deep physical awareness. Unlike other Buddhist traditions that emphasize chanting, reciting mantras, or renouncing worldly attachments, Zazen offers a path to enlightenment through the simplicity of seated meditation. Practitioners sit with steady posture and a calm yet alert mind, allowing thoughts and emotions to rise and fall naturally, like ripples on water. By harmonizing breath with form, Zazen cultivates a profound sense of presence — a union of body and mind that leads toward inner peace and clarity. At this Rinzai Zen temple, erected in the 1600s and overlooking key points in Hiroshima's history and the scenic Seto Inland Sea, practice Zazen meditation with the head monk. Surrounded by meandering gardens that bloom with flowers in every season, but are especially famed for the vivid blues, purples, and pink hydrangeas, discover Zen in a location of both blossoming beauty and spiritual tranquility. Let the quiet of the temple, the rhythm of your breath, and the presence of nature guide you inward — toward a moment of stillness that lingers long after you leave.
