The Glittering Craft of Kinstugi

Rooted in centuries of Japanese tradition, kintsugi — the art of golden joinery — repairs broken ceramics using lacquer and gold powder, transforming cracks into gleaming veins of resilience. Since the art's reputed origins in the Muromachi Period, when shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu demanded that artisans repair his treasured broken tea bowl in a manner combining both elegance and practicality. Since then, kintsugi has become linked with countless Japanese philosophies, such as wabi-sabi and mottainai, and cultural art forms, such as tea ceremony and maki-e. In this intimate workshop located centrally in Hiroshima, join a professional kintsugi instructor to learn not only the technical steps of restoration, working together to create your own custom masterpiece. Experience a wide range of kintsugi techniques and discover for yourself the deeper philosophy behind the craft: that flaws and fractures are not something to hide, but to highlight and honor.
