Brushing up History
Carefully selected goat hairs of the highest quality are separated and gathered by touch and sight, paired with many years of experience. After following more than 70 different individual steps, these hairs come together to form a fude brush of pristine quality. Produced since the end of the Edo Period, the Kawajiri fude brush has been carefully handcrafted by generations of master artisans in the Kawajiri area of Hiroshima. At this 100-year-old workshop studio, the current 4th generation artisan strives to keep the art of handcrafting fude brushes alive. Join this master in his workshop and learn firsthand the beginning steps of the fude brush-making process. Then, take up a completed brush to experience the grace and fluidity of a handcrafted fude brush.
