Good Circulation
Pumped from the sea at high tide, the clear and rich seawater flows over steadily sloping clay ramps to soak in the sun's rays and evaporate excess moisture. Then, it is poured over bunches of thin bamboo tied and draped over a wooden structure, through which the wind blows, further evaporating moisture from the seawater, to leave behind highly concentrated saltwater. This water, bursting with the flavors of the sea, is then boiled to completely erase all moisture, leaving behind fresh sea salt. In this way, the traditional salt farming method of ryukashiki shijoka enden utilizes the natural powers of the sun and the wind. At this salt factory on an island off the coast of central Okinawa, feel the wind and sun on your skin as you observe the production process of the traditional salt farming method-based salt factory. Then, try your hand at boiling and making your own batch of salt, and take home a piece of Okinawa's natural landscape with you.
